Design Shop

Peer support is a critical component to fostering deep learning and enabling career success. Design Shop is a seminar-style course. The format will vary and can include the following:

• An invited lecture by faculty, research presentation by embedded experts, presentation by community partners and clinical leaders on health system needs and examples of strong and weak solutions.
• A research presentation by an advanced MN-LHS trainee on planned publications, grants, or clinical dissemination and implementation for their research project. 
• A roundtable problem-solving discussion on challenges in research and career development through peer-to-peer consultancy.
• An interactive discussion relating to the development of leadership skills, such as managing study coordinators, convincing clinical partners to adopt new techniques, completion and discussion of a leadership inventory tool, or a presentation on emotional intelligence, team management, or work-life balance.
• An interactive presentation on various topics relevant to the transition to independence, including managing your budget, seeking external funding , grant writing resources such as the Research and Academic Support Services, navigating the IRB, literature searching using Scopus, and using tools such as Pure Experts and RedCap.

In addition to community building discussions at the Design Shop, seminars will guide trainees in how to implement the LHS competencies within their own work to achieve greater depth. Fellows are expected to attend Design Shop external speaker sessions as well as any sessions specifically geared toward fellows.
